Superb Gem Unc 1880 Fifty Dollar Legal- PMG 67 EPQ
Fr. 161 $50 1880 Legal Tender PMG Superb Gem Unc 67 EPQ. Only this note and two others have been assigned this 67 EPQ grade by PMG with none graded higher. The note is absolutely stunning and, in spite of its lofty grade, it appears as though an extra point might well have been in order. This classic design, with its large brown seal, blue serial numbers and striking vignette of America, is one of our favorite pieces of currency. Just over sixty pieces are known of this number in all grades combined, including those in museums and in government hands. This is a type that does come nice as a result of a small hoard having turned up decades ago, but in this case, nice is primarily considered grades 64 and 65--67s of this number will never be anything but rare.Auction Info
