Rare Ball 277 Four Per Cent Call Certificate
Ball 277 Cr. 137 $5000 1863 Four Per Cent Call Certificate PMG Very Fine 20.Ball 277 is known only as a remainder as all issued pieces were redeemed and destroyed. Ball estimates a population of only 4-10 extant and that figure includes proofs. The third party label reads splits, discolored. The call certificate is not hindered by those details as the splits are small and not noticeable in the holder and the discoloration refers mostly to the blank back, while the face is 99% clear and exhibits a detailed Fort Sumter vignette. We have sold only one of these in the past and on that night in May 2007, a raw Fine brought $10,350 on a $4000 to $8000 estimate. Look for tonight's slightly nicer example to possibly exceed that three year old figure.
