Description
Unique Serial Number 1 $50 Date Back
Madill, OK - $50 1882 Date Back Fr. 564 The First NB Ch. # (W)5404This is not only a great Oklahoma rarity, but one of the great National Bank Note rarities from all states. It is not only the only known serial number 1 $50 1882 Date Back from Oklahoma, it is the only serial number 1 $50 1882 Date Back known from any National Bank in the country. Our consignor obtained this note in our May, 2001 sale, where, in a much less sophisticated and far less knowledgeable era it realized just under $20,000. Now recognized as the unique rarity it truly is, and with the market having grown considerably more comfortable with the idea of trophy items fetching prices commensurate with their desirability, expect this PMG graded Very Fine 20 example to command a multiple of that number. Just what that figure will be depends on the determination of the bidders tonight, but when the hammer falls only one collector can own one of the ultimate trophy Nationals that serves to separate the truly great collections from the nearly great collections.
