Gorgeous PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ English Text $1000
BC-19 $1000 1935A lovely example of the English Text 1935 $1000. Unlike the other denominations in this series, all of which were retired prematurely, the 1935 thousands were in circulation until January, 1952, when they were superseded by the 1937 thousands that had been held in the Bank of Canada's reserve stockpile. Even then, they were not recalled, but were simply not re-issued by Bank of Canada agencies. Protection, a beautifully detailed security allegory, is seen on the back and features a kneeling woman shielding her child. It was engraved by William Jung based on a painting by A.E. Foringer.
