Unique Washington Territorial Postal Note
Montesano, Washington Territory- Postal Note Type II $1.50 July 31, 1886With all the information currently known about Postal Notes, this note is unique for the Territory. Additionally, no other Type II notes have been reported. An evenly circulated Very Fine, rare Territorial example payable forty miles away at Olympia that has been signed at the payee line, but was not hole punched at the cancellation star. Also, there does not appear to be a dated stamp of the paying office on the back. The dated stamp of the issuing office is very faint, but present.
