Description

Postage Currency Used as Postage. A 5¢ Fr. 1230 (Milton 1R5.4) mounted to the upper left of an envelope and post marked "New York September 20, 9 p.m. 1901." The identical post mark appears a second time in the upper right of the envelope. This is one of the very few known indisputably genuine uses of postage currency as postage. This was previously lot 96 of our January 1997 Sale where it realized $770 on an estimate of $750-up. Worth considerably more on today's market.
