Description

Extremely Fine Fr. 150--One of Only Nine Known

Fr. 150 $50 1863 Legal Tender PMG Extremely Fine 40. Only eight examples of this Friedberg number are known--six of which, including this ninth note, are lovely, high-grade examples. Only one or two others of the design type from Fr. 148 through Fr. 150a can be comparably graded. This note, a new number to the census, slips right into the short serial number range that has supplied the high-end pieces. The six examples have been variously graded from EF to Uncirculated, which more than likely reflects varied opinions rather than varied grades. The price record for this number is held by a PCGS 40 which realized $103,500 in October of 2005. This note is an absolute stunner with impeccable color of the paper and inks, and sharp printing quality. PMG has added the comment "Professional Restoration of Edge Splits." We have seen this note out of the holder, and we are unable to find any trace of the restorations. The surfaces of the note are well embossed, bright, and completely original.
