$5.5 Million of Currency Auctioned in Heritage's $25 Million Central States Events in St. Louis
Dallas, TX: Heritage Auction Galleries offered 3,400 lots of rare currency in its May 9 - 11, 2007 Official Auction at the Central States Numismatic Society convention held in St. Louis. Currency prices realized hit $5,494,075; Heritage also auctioned $17.6 million in rare coins at their Central States Signature Auction, plus $1.2 million in the Final Session. Including the Post Auction Buys, the final total is expected to exceed $25 million.
"This auction," enthused Jim Fitzgerald, Director of Currency Auctions for Heritage, "included major holdings of Colonial Currency, Fractional Currency, Obsolete Notes, Large Size Type and National Bank Notes. Among many seldom seen items were a pair of 1846 U.S. Loan Bonds, and an EF45 example of Fr. 1a with "for the" handwritten. The auction also included 200 lots of Fractional Currency, a large selection of CSA Bonds and Currency from the Bill Bond Collection, several MPC rarities, 500 lots of Small Size type notes, and1,200 lots of National Bank Notes. The 1928 $10,000 note was one of only seven available to the collecting public."
Highlighted in the CSNS auction were the William A. "Bill" Bond Collection of Confederate and Southern States Bonds, the Jacob and Heather Dedman Collection, the Collection of Greg Southward, the Lincoln Collection of Illinois Nationals, and the Rolling Plains Collection of Oklahoma and Texas Nationals.
