High Grade Fr. 1353 - One of the Finest Known
Fr. 1353 Milton 3R50.8b 50¢ Third Issue Justice About New. From our first sale in November of 1990 where it was cataloged, "It's a new piece to the market, never having passed through a sale or been known to Fractional collectors. The margins are close but acceptable. This is by far the finest of the six now known to exist. The grade of About New is given due to surface soil that suggests some use in circulation. No folds, splits or other circulation-caused defects are present, and the note could make a case for the grade of New." The up-to-date 2005 census stands at nine pieces, none of which grades uncirculated. This piece and two others have been described as About Uncirculated, although a side-by-side comparison would be needed to ascertain the finest known. Fifteen years ago, this piece realized $6,875 as lot 84 of our November 1990 Sale on an estimate of $5,000-up. The ex-Boyd Stack's piece described as, "About Uncirculated or virtually so," realized $17,250 at auction last May. With the entry of several new serious players into the Fractional market since that time, we would anticipate that this piece will realize . . .
