Description:
Philadelphia, PA- Stiffel & Freeman Pay Check Payable at Quaker National Bank $1 Nov. 22, 1907
Stiffel & Freeman Safe Company manufactured safes from the 1870s until they were acquired by the Steelcraft Corporation of America in the 1920s. This is a piece of scrip from the Panic of 1907, serial number 700 and printed by the ABNCo of Philadelphia. This scrip note also has a transference of the red ink printing on the back from the serial number 701 check that was at one time right behind the check in our auction tonight. A catalogue on scrip of the Panics of 1893, 1907, and 1914 is in the works by a noted paper money author. Look for this paper money speciality to gain momentum when this catalogue is published. The apparent grade is for stains. PCGS Apparent Very Fine 35.
