Four Consecutive Fr. 236 $1 1899 Mule Silver Certificates PMG Choice About Unc 58 EPQ, Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ, and (2) Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
All Large Size United States paper money had serial numbers consisting of up to eight numerical digits, plus prefix and suffix letters. When the 99,999,999th note in a given block was reached, the last note on the sheet received the hand-set, nine-digit serial number 100,000,000.

This group of four consecutive pieces was assembled with a lot of patience. Only one of these pieces has been sold individually in the last 20 or more years. That piece, the serial number N10000000A note, realized more than $25,000 in 2005. Its perfectly original paper, full embossing, and lack of folds resulted in a full Choice plus grade in that appearance. A search for the other serial numbers leading up to the one hundred millionth note was not short or without cost. The solid serial number 9 note came at great expense and the two preceding notes were perfectly complementary to the set. Serial number rollover pairs on large size notes are extremely scarce with just one other pair gracing our auctions in more than a decade.
